The Groupe M6 is one of the leading French audiovisual groups, recognized for its TV channels, productions and innovative formats. Within the group, C.PRODUCTIONS is the internal production unit responsible for designing and producing editorial content (magazines, reports, broadcasts).
Background: Generative AI in audiovisual media: a technological as well as a human challenge
In a context of Transformation of the professions in the audiovisual production sector, marked by the rapid emergence of the’Generative AI, C.PRODUCTIONS wanted:
- exploring new uses of generative AI in content creation,
- deploy teams with diverse profiles (journalists, editors, directors, technicians…),
- sometimes changing people's minds skeptical or suspicious,
- to inspire people to experiment concretely, in order to form convictions about the proper use of AI.
C.PRODUCTIONS has turned to talenco's AI experts to design and animate a 2-day hackathon, bringing together about twenty collaborators, all with different profiles (journalists, directors, production managers…).
The objectives of the generative AI hackathon
The hackathon pursues a simple but ambitious goal: moving from technological curiosity to the real-world use of generative AI in the audiovisual production professions.
- To inspire people to discover and use generative AI tools, starting with the “Alfred” home tool”
- To make the discovery of Concrete opportunities for the various professions in the audiovisual production industry: writing, directing, editing, production design, management…
- Allowing teams to test it for themselves LLMs and other generative AI
- Understanding both the Capabilities and limitations of generative AI
- Promoting collaboration between professions in a production context realistic
The event: an immersive two-day hackathon
talenco has imagined a dynamic, immersive and concrete format: 48 hours to go from “I am skeptical” to “I want to try it out”; to transform an abstract technology into a real operational leverage; to turn generative artificial intelligence into a tool… and not a threat !
48 hours. One team. One crisis. One mission.
It all starts with a message. A big reporter, on assignment in Istanbul, sends an urgent video to the newsroom. He has just witnessed a major event. He has footage, interviews… but no way to mount the subject.
“Can you help me?”
In France, the teams of C.PRODUCTIONS take over. The problem? No usual tools. No servers. No editing software.
There is only one solution: use artificial intelligence.
A two-day project, conceived as a simulation game, from the brief to the final result
Hackathon day 1: understanding and structuring
- Analysis of content (photos, interviews, sounds)
- Transcription, de-rush and editorial structuring with AI
- Definition of the angle and the narrative line
Hackathon day 2: production and finalization
- Generation and improvement of content (images, sounds, voice-overs, videos)
- Demolition and pre-assembly assisted by AI
- Editing and post-production effects (b-roll, anonymization, sound effects…)
- Final montage and presentation of the 3 sub-groups in front of a jury
A playful and engaging mechanics
- Work in multidisciplinary sub-groups
- Animation in mode escape game / war room
- Progressive delivery of content by the journalist via WhatsApp (stress test)
- Intermediate challenges (translation, anonymization, generation of visuals…)
- Final presentation and vote by the executives
Objective: recreate the pressure, urgency and collaboration of a real editorial team!
The most pedagogical ones from our AI hackathon
Learning by doing
A 100% experiential format: the participants produce a real deliverable, rather than following theoretical training.
An ultra realistic immersion
A scenario inspired by the journalistic field (urgency, constraints, information flow) which strengthens commitment and ownership.
A cross-disciplinary collaboration
Some mixed teams (editorial, technical, production…) to break down silos and bring together expertise.
Accelerated acculturation to AI
The participants are putting the theory into practice several use cases :
- Transcription and translation,
- generation of images and videos,
- anonymization,
- assisted assembly.
Learning through experimentation
The teams discover for themselves what AI allows them to do, what doesn’t work as well, and the associated ethical issues.
The results and impacts on AI usage
The hackathon enabled the launch a real momentum around generative AI within the company.
Rapid and concrete acculturation
In two days, the teams gained a clear understanding of the possible uses of AI in their respective fields.
A change in perception
The participants overcame their initial reluctance to discover the real potential of the tools – but also their limitations.
A passage to immediate action
- Want to test use cases in everyday life
- Identification of time savings on tasks with low added value
- Will to disseminate good practices within teams
A lever of collective engagement
The immersive and playful format favored:
- the collaboration,
- the involvement,
- and a sustainable appropriation of the learning process.
Strong participation from participants
- 100% satisfaction with the content and the animation
- Recommendation note: 9,1/10
- Format judged “Very effective for quickly getting started”
Perspectives following the hackathon
In light of the success of the hackathon, talenco continues its support:
- extension of the IA approach to other teams,
- deepening of business use cases,
- reflection on the industrialization of certain uses.
