With «One learning a day», the Danone Group enables its employees to accelerate their development in line with the changes in our environment.
The Multichannel of Learning is underway!

Interview with Juliette ROY, Head of Danone Academy Topline, Leadership & Management

When and in what context did the Danone group launch the «one learning a day”?

It was in 2012 that the concept of «one learning a day» was born during a Learning Expedition with General Managers from Danone who went to seek inspiration from other markets.
In a world where change is constantly accelerating and where the obsolescence of knowledge is programmed, the Learning & Development is identified as a A key lever in the service of transformation, Whether it is individual, collective or linked to the organization.
«One learning a day» or « one lesson a day«has been identified at Danone as a A key factor for success in meeting our business challenges, While remaining anchored in our dual economic and social project.

What is the philosophy behind «one learning a day»?

«One learning a day» highlights the need to renew our knowledge, our attitudes, and our ways of working, as well as the tools and models we use every day in order to be able to respond to the challenges of our environment.
A strategy has therefore been put in place to meet today’s challenge, which is to’learning at the pace of change, Rather, it means anticipating tomorrow’s changes in our various professions and roles.
To do this, we have moved from an offer that was very focused on the present to one that is more focused on the future. multi-modal logic, all over the world.
Our model at Danone is summarized in 4 figures. We chose the «10 10 20 60» approach:

  • 60% of what we learn is learned «on the job», in our daily work life.,
  • 20% with others, peers, through networking and our culture of proximity,
  • 10% thanks to digital tools,
  • 10% during more formal in-person training sessions.

The focus we are placing on digital has seemed important to us in order to promote a real cultural change in terms of training within the Group.

Can you give us examples of methods and tools proposed?

Through this model, we wanted to highlight that Training is not limited to training rooms, and we have increased opportunities to learn for the 100,000 employees of Danone worldwide:

  • Launch of « Campus for All«Major events bringing together up to several thousand people (13,000 in Mexico, for example) for a week focused on «Learning & Development»
  • Development of the supply of distance learning to take into account new ways of learning (mobile apps on tablets and smartphones, MOOCs, serious games, elearning, virtual classrooms …),
  • creation of learning communities, co-development …
  • etc… the examples are numerous.

We have moved from an era where face-to-face training reigned to an era where we think of «blended» learning to maximize both the effectiveness of our programs, their affordability, and their impact on the greatest number of people.

What are the key factors of success and the benefits for the company and its employees?

I would cite 3 key factors of major success to highlight.
– First one impactful communication (video on YouTube), which made the concept known to both HR and operational staff in a simple and playful way, accompanied by more practical and operational tools (e.g., «How to build your training plan with One Learning A Day?»).
– Then, the large-scale launch of our learning platform, Campus 2.0, which allows everyone to connect, and offers a large number of digital modules.
– The last key factor for success is the fact that Always link our actions and priorities to business challenges functions for which we work. All our programs are tailored to the needs of the business, whether it is to accelerate the transfer of skills on fundamentals or to develop programs of high strategic value.
The benefits? Accelerating professional and personal development for everyone, To grow both our teams and our business and to unleash the potential of the 100,000 employees of Danone.

Thank you to Juliette Roy for agreeing to answer our questions.
