The’Artificial intelligence was featured in the program of the three-day event Futur En Seine festival 2017. Because it promises to disrupt our daily lives, AI arouses as much fascination as apprehension. Among the questions it raises, the question of work fuels many debates. By automating the vast majority of tasks still performed by men, will AI destroy our jobs? How can we prepare for it? It is certain that AI will contribute greatly to changing our relationship with work and knowledge.
But artificial intelligence is not the only technology that is disrupting our way of working. The “new realities” that are emerging are changing the way we work. Mixed reality, virtual or augmented reality, offers us new possibilities in terms of collaborative work.
Above all, these technologies change the way we learn as well as the way we organize and capitalize on the knowledge that each of us holds within the company (Knowledge management). At any rate, that is what they presented. Nicolas Sekkaki, President of IBM France, and Eva Thoreau, Director of Marketing at Microsoft, during their interventions Thursday 8 June at Futur En Seine.
Artificial intelligence to reinvent work, without destroying it
AI at Work – Nicolas Sekkaki, President @ IBM France
In 20 minutes, the intervention of Nicolas Sekkaki had the ambition to introduce us the use cases of IBM’s AI, Watson, in various professional fields and its impact on professions.
Nicolas Sekkaki immediately puts an end to the debate: AI is not destructive of jobs. On the contrary, it gives professionals a second wind to rethink the contours of their profession and reinvent the customer experience.
Indeed, the time saved by artificial intelligence, whether in data retrieval (AI would reduce the time required to search for a document or piece of information by 60%) or the automation of tasks, creates new added value for the customer.
Nicolas Sekkaki takes the example of the banking sector.
The customer no longer goes to the branches to find their advisor. Increasingly autonomous and impatient, he needs an immediate response and prefers to go to his mobile device to find it online. Should bank agents therefore disappear, and should branches close their doors? No. They must reinvent their profession, and think about the new added value they will offer to their increasingly demanding customers. BIOPAU (Bavard, Impatient, Omni, Autonomous Shareholder, Unique).
The time saved by AI on certain tasks can therefore allow agents to focus on issues related to the evolution of the services they provide to customers, as well as helping them to train to acquire new skills..
The mixed reality promotes collaborative work in the company
Mixed reality, virtual and augmented reality will revolutionize the way we work and learn – Evlampia Thoreau, Audience Evangelist Manager @Microsoft.
Of the three realities announced in the conference’s title, it is on the mixed reality that Evlampia Thoreau focuses with the Hololens mixed reality headset.
Unlike virtual reality, the goal of mixed reality is not to surpass the boundaries of reality, but to give it new possibilities for expression by overlaying virtual elements in the real environment, such as holograms. Thus, mixed reality opens up to many very practical applications, especially in the professional world where it promises to revolutionize our work methods.
Indeed, the mixed reality gives the collaborator the possibility to access workspaces that are physically inaccessible: Holoproduction, The concept, invented by Microsoft, allows it to appear in the form of an hologram or avatar in a new working environment, within which it can intervene.
Mixed reality therefore creates new opportunities for collaborative creation by bringing employees together in the same workspace. In the field of learning, mixed reality allows students to engage for longer periods of time and to be motivated through experimentation: learning is achieved through action.
